The Seattle Seahawks called it a mandatory minicamp with a day to spare, but they didn’t come away unscathed.

The good news is that second-year right guard Anthony Bradford, who tweaked his ankle during OTAs, did participate in Wednesday’s practice. McClendon Curtis had been receiving first-team reps at the position, but with Bradford back, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald says Bradford will be in competition for the starting job.

Via Seahawks.com:

“He’s right there,” Macdonald said of Bradford, who started 10 games as a rookie. “He’s right there. Just good to see him out there. Missed a little bit of time there throughout some of the OTAs. He’s right in the mix. Got a great competition, especially on the right side of the line, and he’s right there. He’s got a great opportunity to go earn himself a job.”

Rookie Christian Haynes has been with the second-team at right guard, while Laken Tomlinson has been on the first-team at left guard.

For the “not good but doesn’t really matter” news, second-year wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba left Wednesday’s practice early with a shoulder injury. Free agent acquisition Laviska Shenault Jr was also dealing with a foot injury and his practice was curt short. It’s better safe than sorry, so based on Mike Macdonald’s comments it sounds like neither injury is concerning.

Meanwhile, second-year defensive tackle Cameron Young had what Macdonald termed “a lower body injury” that kept him out of both minicamp practices. The fourth-round selection will be competing for a roster spot as part of the Seahawks’ interior defensive line rotation.

Lastly, right tackle George Fant, filling in for the recovering Abe Lucas, didn’t practice on Wednesday but Macdonald indicated it’s more of a load management situation. Raiqwon O’Neal took right tackle snaps.

It’s time for a little summer break before reconvening at VMAC in Renton for training camp, which starts in late July.
